North American Classification System (NAICS) Code: The intended procurement is classified under NAICS code 334510 - Electromedical and Electrotherapeutic Apparatus Manufacturing with a Size Standard of 1,250 employees. Product and Service Code: 66- Instruments & Laboratory Set-aside Status: Small Business set-aside restriction is not applicable. Competition Status: This requirement is posted as non-competitive. Non-Competitive (Single-sole Source (Including brand-name)) Determination: This notice of proposed acquisition is posted as an intent to award a purchase order on a non-competitive basis to Resonance Research, Inc. 5 Fortune Drive, Pinehurst Business Park, Billerica, MA 01821. The determination by the Government to award a contract without providing for full and open competition is based upon the market research conducted specifically producing no other sources of supply or service capable of achieving this Government requirement. Description of Requirement: The Cerebral Microcirculation Section (CMS) of the Laboratory of Functional and Molecular Imaging (LFMI) has a 7T small animal MRI system that was acquired in FY 2003. Some components of this system are nearing their useful end-of-life, and need to be upgraded. In particular, the system has been originally equipped with a set of gradient amplifiers that has recently started to fail frequently, introducing downtime to the operation of the MRI system and requiring constant repair. CMS needs to procure a new set of gradient amplifiers that will replace the existing set. The new set of gradient amplifiers should have significantly enhanced specifications when compared to the existing set. Together with the new set of gradient amplifiers, CMS needs a new gradient set that will be driven by the new gradient amplifiers, and allow CMS to obtain state-of-the-art imaging of small animals, including rodents and small primates. The purpose of this acquisition is to procure a new set of gradient amplifiers, a new gradient set, and associated cables and filters for the connection of these components to the MRI system. These components will modernize CMS 7T small animal MRI system and allow state-of-the-art imaging of small primates and rodents, in support of the research goals of CMS. The Salient characteristics are as follows: 1. MRI Gradient Power Amplifiers: a. General characteristics: The Gradient Power Amplifiers consist of 3 identitical modules capable of supplying the gradient set with current pulses and waveforms typical of MRI pulse sequences.
