The Smithsonian Institution is seeking to contract multiple firms for multimedia and audiovisual design and production services across five distinct categories: film and video, audio and sound environments, interactive media, online technologies, and special environments. Interested vendors may submit proposals for any combination of services within these categories without needing to cover all elements in each. The contracts will be open quantity with a base period of one year and four optional renewal years, exercisable solely at the institution’s discretion. Individual projects will be awarded through fixed-price task orders under these base contracts, allowing Smithsonian to engage firms of varying sizes to meet the needs of different museums, galleries, research centers, and zoo exhibitions. These services are expected to support a range of exhibitions—temporary, permanent, or traveling—across topics including art, culture, history, science, air and space, and technology. Project scope is variable and may involve full audiovisual production, post-production, multimedia planning, and ancillary services such as research, scriptwriting, and cinematography. Contracts may cover complete audiovisual project requirements or select support elements for internally managed initiatives. There is no guaranteed minimum work volume, and the Smithsonian may choose to compete task orders individually or not at all. Proposals must be submitted as complete written hardcopies to be considered. Large businesses are required to include a small business subcontracting plan if selected. The formal solicitation is expected to be released around April 1, 2002, and interested parties must request solicitation documents in writing, providing full contact details, through the Smithsonian’s Office of Contracting.
