The U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM), specifically the Project Manager for Tactical Vehicles, is soliciting information from sources capable of providing an oil management system designed to extend engine oil drain intervals and eliminate oil disposal for tactical vehicles across heavy, medium, and light cargo classes. The system is intended for use in operational theaters where regular vehicle maintenance is challenging. Key requirements include low maintenance, unit-level serviceability, inclusion of an oil makeup reservoir that prevents crankcase oil depletion if makeup oil runs out, minimal vehicle modification, negligible impact on engine emissions, and no adverse effects on vehicle reliability or maintainability. The system should be production-ready or require only slight adaptation of existing commercial or military products, enabling rapid purchase, production, and installation on approximately 10,000 vehicles within 6 to 12 months. Interested companies must submit details electronically by July 20, 2005, including product descriptions, technical data with verified field or military testing, and cost estimates, emphasizing a price point under $1,000 per vehicle for hardware and installation. The solicitation also seeks information on emerging technologies that could enhance current oil management capabilities. Submitted data will be restricted to government review only, and inquiries are directed to designated government contacts. The overall goal is to identify viable, immediately demonstrable solutions to improve oil management for the U.S. Army’s tactical vehicle fleet in active theaters.
