The Teacher and School Leader Incentive Fund is a competitive discretionary grant program administered directly by the federal government. Its primary objective is to support the creation, expansion, and improvement of human capital management systems and performance-based compensation systems for teachers, principals, and school leaders. The program specifically targets educators in high-need schools to incentivize those who successfully increase student academic achievement, enhance workforce readiness, and reduce the achievement gap between high- and low-performing students. Beyond the implementation of compensation systems, the program allows for the use of funds to research and evaluate the reliability, fairness, and overall effectiveness of these educator management systems. While the program is currently closed and pending its next funding cycle, it remains focused on the intersection of education and economic development to improve school leadership and teaching quality.
