Temescal Canyon Road Widening Project- El Cerrito Segment

The Temescal Canyon Road Widening Project - El Cerrito Segment is a transportation infrastructure initiative led by the County of Riverside Transportation Department in cooperation with Caltrans. Located in the unincorporated community of El Cerrito and the city of Corona, California, the project involves widening Temescal Canyon Road from two lanes to four lanes from north of El Cerrito Road to Tom Barnes Street, including a 200-foot segment north of Cajalco Road. The scope of work includes the installation of a two-way left-turn lane and sidewalks to create a complete street capable of serving motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit riders. The primary objectives are to alleviate regional traffic congestion and manage overflow traffic from I-15 during peak hours. Environmental compliance is a central component of the project, as evidenced by the adoption of a Mitigated Negative Declaration under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The project is designed to avoid significant environmental impacts through specific mitigation measures, including the protection of oak trees according to County guidelines and the preservation of aquatic and riparian resources. Specialized requirements include the use of qualified biologists to monitor jurisdictional areas and provide training to project personnel prior to grading. Additionally, the Riverside County Flood Control and Water Conservation District will oversee the inspection and acceptance of storm drain facilities to ensure compliance with district standards, while a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan will be implemented to manage runoff and hazardous materials.
