The US Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service in Boise, Idaho, is seeking a commercial terrestrial lidar system primarily for quantifying snow depth in experimental watersheds, with secondary uses for vegetation and landform analysis. To ensure efficient data collection across large areas during volatile winter weather, the system must meet three critical technical requirements: a measurement range of approximately 4000 meters, a rapid measurement rate of at least 30 kHz, and eye-safe laser operation. The requested package, modeled after the Riegl VZ-4000, should include a 3D imaging sensor, a 36 MP camera, a single-user software license, a battery, a shipping case, a tripod with rods, and targets. Interested parties must submit an SF18 along with product catalog literature to Frederick O. Gifford for evaluation. This procurement is listed under solicitation number ag32sds170097 with a performance location in Boise, Idaho.

Full Description

Terrestrial Lidar Purchase The US Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service in Boise ID has a requirement for a commercial available terrestrial lidar (light detection and ranging) system. The operating principle of these systems is analogous to radar but use laser and are much more accurate. Our primary application is for quantification of snow depth in test sites and experimental watersheds. Secondary applications are related to land form and vegetation distribution analysis. For the snow applications it is critical that relatively large areas, such as experimental watersheds, be surveyed quickly as snow conditions and weather change quickly during winter. RIEGL USA has a system and others commercial products will be consider if they can meet or exceed the characteristic below. There are three essential criteria. 1. The instrument must be capable of very long range measurements, about 4000 m. This is important because we need to survey relatively large areas and a long range means less instrument movement and instrument set up on site and easier spatial integration after data collection. 2. The instrument must be capable of rapid measurement rate, at least 30,000 Hz, or 30 kHz. This is important because it means that more sites can be measured in a day. 3. The laser be eye-safe so that people working on the surveys or observing activities do not suffer inadvertent eye damage from looking in to the instrument. The Riegl consists of 1. 3D Imaging Sensor, VZ-4000: 2. 36 MP Camera 3. RI Solve Single User License 4. Battery 5. Shipping case 6. Tripod 7. Tripod Rods qty 5 8. Targets qty 5 9. Fob Destination Interested are to complete and return the SF18 to the attention of Fred Gifford as listed in this notice with catalog literature of your product for our evaluation.
