One advantage of this system is that it will allow the lab personnel to monitor seizure activity in a mouse brain for two weeks or longer. This is an advantage as, in general, when seizures are going to occur, cannot be predicted. Another advantage of the system is that once a seizure is detected, the system will quantify the duration, frequency and give some indication of its severity and the type of seizure BIOPAC Systems, Inc is the only company retailing a very light weight EEG in vivo system that can be used in animals from postnatal day six. This is an advantage as many of the phenotypes in mice that model the human disease condition manifest within this young age range. This company has supplied similar systems to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and several other institutions across the US. This allows us to compare our results with other users here at the NIH. BIOPAC Systems, Inc provides support for the system via remote sessions and through on-site training with a company biologist. This will ensure that the needed data is obtained, bonafide and of high quality. The proposed contract action is for supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under authority of the 41 U.S.C. 253(c) (1), FAR 6.302.
