The Living Radio Chip project, identified by solicitation number 23627 and posted on October 1, 2026, is an award notice issued by the Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek under the agency Toegepaste en Technische Wetenschappen. The initiative aims to revolutionize wireless chip technology by integrating a miniature learning engine directly into the radio silicon, allowing the hardware to evolve beyond fixed factory settings. By enabling the chip to sense its own vital signals and adapt in real time to factors such as heat, interference, and aging, the project seeks to eliminate the energy waste associated with traditional safety margins. The successful implementation of this technology is expected to result in wireless devices that exhibit superior performance, increased energy efficiency, and extended operational lifespans.

Full Description

We propose to make the radio chip “alive.” Today’s wireless chips are fixed at the factory and cannot adapt to heat, interference, aging, or real-world use, so they waste energy through large safety margins. Our Living Radio Chip embeds a tiny learning engine directly inside the radio silicon. It senses the chip’s own vital signals, detects change, and adapts in real time. If successful, this could enable wireless devices that perform better, use less energy, and last longer.
