This contract pertains to the manufacture and refurbishment of the SSBN 726 Class Main Shaft Seals, which are essential components ensuring the watertight integrity of submarines. Due to the precision and critical tolerances required, only contractors who have been pre-qualified under stringent requirements will be eligible for contract awards. Interested contractors must obtain a detailed specification and technical data package by completing and submitting the DD Form 2345, which certifies compliance with Military Critical Technical Data Agreements. This form and the overall qualification process are in place to protect sensitive military technology governed by U.S. and Canadian regulations. Contractors must go through a separate qualification process handled by the Naval Sea Systems Command, which includes submission of manufacturing and testing plans along with repair and process procedures. The qualification process requires an estimated notification period of 30 to 45 days after submission of hardware or documentation for testing. Once qualified, contractors are added to the Navy's solicitation mailing list for future awards. The contract is administered by the Naval Inventory Control Point (NAVICP) with the goal of beginning contract awards around May 2004. This ensures that only companies meeting strict standards and possessing necessary clearances and technology access can produce or refurbish these highly specialized submarine components.

General Info

Contract awards for SSBN 726 shaft seals require pre-qualified contractors submitting DD Form 2345 and passing rigorous testing.
