Town of Fairfax Bridge Preventative Maintenance Program

The Town of Fairfax Bridge Preventative Maintenance Program is a project focused on performing essential repairs to three existing bridges in Marin County, California: the Marin Road Bridge, Spruce Road Bridge, and Canyon Road Bridge. Conducted through the Caltrans Bridge Preventative Maintenance Program, the project aims to correct structural deficiencies, maintain the bridge inventory in good or fair condition, and extend the overall service life of the structures to avoid more costly future rehabilitations. The scope of work includes various levels of physical modifications and repairs for each bridge, with specific requirements that construction within creek areas must occur during the dry season at lowest flow rates, utilizing temporary diversions for dewatering. The project has undergone a comprehensive environmental review process in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act, resulting in a Notice of Determination dated April 17, 2026, which certified that the project would not have a significant environmental effect. This determination was supported by an Initial Study and Mitigated Negative Declaration that evaluated impacts on air quality, biological and cultural resources, geology, hydrology, and noise. Administrative oversight is led by Public Works Director Kristin Arnold, with technical consulting provided by WRA, Inc. Supporting documentation for the project includes specialized arborist, natural environment, cultural resource, and hydrology reports.
