Townsend Field Improvement Project

The Santa Clara Unified School District is planning significant improvements to Townsend Field, Elmer Johnson Field, and the Buchser Middle School tennis courts located at 1111 Bellomy Street in Santa Clara, California. The project includes replacing existing field surfaces with a new natural grass multi-sports field and installing a new all-weather synthetic track, along with demolishing old concrete bleachers and erecting new ones. Lighting will be upgraded for both Townsend and Elmer Johnson Fields, and new lighting will be added to the tennis courts. Additional upgrades involve installing a new PA system, constructing a new restroom building, replacing the scoreboard and press box, and demolishing the existing concession building. The work is scheduled to begin in December 2026 and last approximately one year, with construction hours set from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
