Trinity County General Plan Update

Trinity County is updating its General Plan to establish a state-mandated framework for growth and development over the next 25 years. The project focuses on land use, transportation, housing, conservation, open space, and public safety, with the goal of balancing community growth and conservation while ensuring efficient development. As part of this effort, the county is also updating its Zoning Code to clarify allowable uses and permitting processes. The project is being managed by the Trinity County Community Development Department with support from Rincon Consultants. The update is conducted under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), requiring a comprehensive Environmental Impact Report (EIR) to analyze potential effects on air quality, biological resources, wildfire risks, and greenhouse gas emissions. Key administrative requirements include mandatory consultation with California Native American tribes to protect tribal cultural resources, with strict confidentiality protocols for sensitive information. The process includes a public review period for the Draft EIR from July 15, 2026, to August 31, 2026, and adheres to the Americans with Disabilities Act for public facility accessibility. The project encompasses the entire unincorporated area of Trinity County.
