UCEDD National Training Initiative to Support Youth with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities involved with the Juvenile Justice System

The Administration for Community Living within the Department of Health and Human Services is offering a single competitive five-year National Training Initiative grant. This opportunity is available to an existing University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research, and Service or a group of such centers led by one primary institution. The goal is to establish a national training center focused on building community capacity to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are currently in, at risk of entering, or transitioning back into the community from the juvenile justice system. The selected center will act as a hub for creating and delivering culturally competent, person-centered, and interdisciplinary trainings for affected individuals, their families, and professional staff. Development of these programs must be collaborative, involving partners such as Protection and Advocacy organizations, juvenile justice personnel, racial justice advocates, and representatives from the mental health, child welfare, education, and workforce systems. The initiative specifically emphasizes the inclusion of youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their family members in the development process.
