UCLA is seeking qualified architectural firms to serve as the Executive Architect for the adaptive re-use and tenant improvement of a 2002-built, approximately 170,000-square-foot laboratory building located at 5210 Pacific Concourse Drive in Los Angeles. The project aims to transform the existing space into a state-of-the-art UCLA Health Sports Medicine Institute, potentially including facilities such as outpatient clinics, ambulatory surgery centers, imaging, and specialty pharmacies. The selected firm must demonstrate expertise in medical outpatient facility design and adaptive reuse projects, with a focus on sustainable, energy-efficient design that complies with LEED Gold standards, California Energy Code (Title 24), and UC policies on green building practices. The project’s estimated construction cost is around $90 million, though final scope and budget are yet to be determined. The selection process involves a formal RFQ submission, with responses due by July 22, 2024, and will be evaluated based on criteria outlined in the RFQ packet. The final appointment of the architect is contingent upon project approval by the UC Board of Regents and adherence to CEQA requirements. The process emphasizes equal opportunity and may include additional negotiations beyond pre-design services. The contract will cover full design services, with the possibility of future scope adjustments after the pre-design phase. Interested firms can access the complete RFQ documentation online and should submit their proposals by the specified deadline to be considered for this significant project, which aims to enhance UCLA’s medical facilities while prioritizing sustainability and compliance with relevant regulations.
