US-101 Wildlife Fencing and Jump-Outs Project (EA 3X390)

Caltrans District 4 is implementing the US-101 Wildlife Fencing and Jump-Outs Project (EA 3X390) in San Rafael and unincorporated Marin County. The primary objective is to enhance wildlife connectivity and reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions by installing wildlife fencing and jump-outs at two specific locations: northbound US-101 at post mile 12.4 and southbound US-101 from post mile 14.7 to 15.3. These installations are designed to discourage animals from entering the right of way and provide safe exit paths for those that do. The scope of work includes necessary site preparation such as clearing, grubbing, and vegetation removal. All construction activities and equipment staging must be conducted strictly within the Caltrans right of way, with staging limited to areas devoid of vegetation.
