The Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center intends to award a sole source, firm-fixed price contract to Wartsila Defense, Inc. for the supply and delivery of critical materials for the USS Gunston Hall (LSD-44). The procurement includes major overhaul kits for both port and starboard rudder seals, as well as key tools, upper spacers, and lower spacers. As the original equipment manufacturer, Wartsila Defense, Inc. is identified as the only source capable of providing parts that ensure full compatibility in form, fit, and function with the ship's existing main propulsion system. This action is being conducted under FAR 13, with delivery terms set as FOB Destination. While the government intends to proceed with a sole source award due to proprietary data and OEM requirements, a synopsis was published to allow interested parties to submit capability statements for consideration. All responses were required to be submitted electronically by December 13, 2018, to determine if a competitive procurement was feasible.
