Vasco Road Safety Improvement

The Vasco Road Safety Improvement Project involves widening a 1.5-mile segment of Vasco Road between Brentwood and Livermore to install a median barrier while preserving existing travel lanes, along with associated upgrades to drainage systems, bridge expansions, wildlife crossings, and other roadway enhancements. The East Contra Costa County Habitat Conservancy serves as the lead CEQA responsible agency for the project and is obtaining take coverage under the ECCC Habitat Conservation Plan/Natural Community Conservation Plan to authorize incidental take of protected species resulting from construction activities. The project relies on the Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration and Mitigation Monitoring and Reporting Plan previously prepared by the Contra Costa County Department of Conservation and Development, with no additional environmental review required from the Conservancy, who formally adopts the existing environmental documentation as its own for CEQA compliance. The project is linked to State Route 4 Bypass Authority under Project No. 0662-6R254/4255, CP#09-55, Phase 2, and is intended to enhance traffic safety and reduce collisions along this corridor. Environmental mitigation strategies are outlined in the approved Mitigation Monitoring and Reporting Plan, ensuring compliance with habitat conservation objectives.
