The Vehicle Grid Integration solicitation issued by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) invites proposals focused on advancing electric vehicle (EV) technologies and strategies to enhance grid integration and broader EV adoption in medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. The current round, designated as Round 2, has revised due dates with the Concept Paper due by June 18, 2024, and full proposals due by September 17, 2024. The program emphasizes developing innovative solutions in three key areas: reducing costs and improving installation of electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), utilizing EVs to enhance grid flexibility, and electrifying additional segments of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. Notably, the focus has shifted exclusively to battery electric vehicles, excluding fuel cell EVs, and certain sub-focus areas related to residential charging have been temporarily removed for future consideration. Funding opportunities are available in two categories: product development projects with awards up to $1 million requiring a 50% cost share, and demonstration projects with awards up to $3 million, requiring a higher cost share of 50% to 65%. Demonstration projects must be located within New York State, and a portion of the funding can be allocated for the purchase and installation of distributed energy resources (DER). The program aims to support shorter-duration projects that address barriers to EV grid integration, with additional details and updates posted on NYSERDA’s website. Eligible applicants include various business entities across all counties in New York State, with no specific set-aside goals for minority, women, or service-disabled veteran-owned businesses.
