The Department of the Interior (DOI) emphasizes proactive and inclusive communication with industry partners, particularly aiming to engage small businesses and previously unacquainted vendors. Their approach includes regular, transparent outreach opportunities such as pre-solicitation conferences, requests for information, and vendor engagement events, all publicly announced through the Federal Business Opportunities website. The DOI’s Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU) plays a key role in organizing and participating in outreach and training sessions for both vendors and agency personnel, maintaining a publicly accessible calendar of events that also highlights relevant sessions hosted by other organizations. They have established formal guidance providing contracting personnel with criteria and techniques for obtaining meaningful vendor input during procurements.
