The five (5) protective factors are: 1) Parental Resilience; 2) Social Connections; 3) Knowledge of Parenting and Child Development; 4) Concrete Support in Times of Need; and 5) Social and Emotional Competence of Children. Utilizing the five protective factors when providing services tends to strengthen a family, prevent child abuse and neglect, and promote self-sufficiency. Research studies have documented that when these Protective Factors are well established in a family the likelihood of negative outcomes diminishes.
