Wah-Sekw-Won Health and Wellness Center Project

The Yurok Tribe is proposing the Wah-Sekw-Won Health and Wellness Center Project, a 24-hour residential behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment facility in California with a capacity for up to 52 patients. The center will comprise three interconnected buildings—the Commons, West House, and East House—totaling approximately 27,310 square feet, and will serve as both a residential treatment center and an outpatient clinic with integrated community meeting spaces. It will include 20 residential treatment rooms and two private rooms, supported by a staff of up to 57 employees. Site development will feature a new access road, 66 parking spaces, utility connections, outdoor lighting, a photovoltaic power system, two septic systems, a backup diesel generator, retaining walls, seasonal stormwater management, and two 60,000-gallon water storage tanks along with a small utility shed. Additional enhancements focus on cultural integration and community wellness, including outdoor gathering spaces, garden seating areas, a salmon preparation station, secured fencing and gated entry, cultural and art trails, a challenge trail, children’s garden, garden terrace, gathering amphitheater, and a meadow walk. These features are designed to support holistic healing grounded in Yurok traditions and environmental stewardship. The project is forecasted to be posted on August 6, 2026, with Sophia Lay, Assistant Director of Planning, identified as the primary point of contact. The facility will be located in the 95546 ZIP code area and aims to provide comprehensive, culturally responsive care to tribal members and the surrounding community.
