The Iowa Department of Transportation is seeking bids for weed control spraying services along interstate and primary roads within Iowa, covering designated areas as shown on provided maps. The work involves applying herbicide within the existing right-of-way, including interchanges and ramps on multi-lane roads, but excluding medians on multi-lane routes. Bidders must supply all labor, materials, water, tools, and equipment necessary to perform spring and fall weed control, focusing on identifying and controlling noxious and invasive weeds through spot spraying. Bids are submitted based on milepost data, and responses should be provided promptly within three working days of notification. The contract, starting March 1, 2024, and ending February 28, 2025, is intended as a one-year agreement with the possibility of renewal for up to five additional years, contingent upon performance and compliance with herbicide application standards, including achieving at least an 80% compliance score for renewals. The selection process considers cost, compliance, staffing, and ability to meet schedules under varying weather conditions, with previous performance influencing the award. The contract emphasizes responsible bidding and adherence to specifications, with the Iowa DOT reserving the right to award based on the most advantageous bid. Bidders are encouraged to submit responses online via the designated portal and participate in a virtual bid opening through a Microsoft Teams meeting. The primary point of contact for inquiries is Jean Gustafson, reachable by email or phone.
