West Valley College PE/Wellness Building

The West Valley-Mission Community College District is proposing the construction of a new 99,000 square foot, two-story Wellness Facility located at 14000 Fruitvale Avenue in Saratoga, California. This project, which aligns with the West Valley College 2020 Educational and Facilities Master Plan, will be situated on an existing track and field site and will include gymnasiums, team rooms, wellness spaces, classrooms, offices, and 44 parking spaces. Additionally, the scope of work includes refreshing the existing gym with new paint and lighting. The project is planned in two phases, with construction scheduled to take place from mid-August 2026 through June 2028. The project is subject to the California Environmental Quality Act and has been granted a General Rule Exemption as technical analyses indicate no significant environmental impact. Key operational requirements include strict dust control measures, such as the use of wet power vacuum street sweepers and a 15 mph speed limit on unpaved surfaces. Furthermore, the contract mandates specific cultural resource protections, requiring all work to cease immediately upon the discovery of human remains and coordination with the Santa Clara County Sheriff/Coroner and the Native American Heritage Commission.
