Westside Mobility Improvements

The Westside Mobility Improvements project undertaken by the City of National City involves a comprehensive set of street and sidewalk enhancements aimed at improving transportation infrastructure and safety within the area. Key components include the construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of 14th Street and Harding Avenue, which will feature street improvements, lighting, signage, striping, and landscaping. Additionally, the project involves reconstructing and elevating the existing sidewalk on the north side of 18th Street from Roosevelt to Hoover, along with installing a new raised crosswalk at 18th Street and Hoover Avenue, complemented by drainage upgrades. The plan also includes the addition of Class II bicycle lanes along Wilson Avenue, Civic Center Drive, Roosevelt Avenue, and 12th Street, promoting safer cycling routes. Widening of sidewalks on 16th Street from Coolidge Avenue to National City Boulevard involves removal and replacement, driveway reconstruction, and landscape and irrigation updates. Furthermore, West Avenue will be converted from a two-way to a one-way northbound street, with curb extensions, signal modifications, restriping, and pedestrian improvements to enhance traffic flow and safety. The project also encompasses sidewalk improvements and curb ramp installations at multiple locations within the Westside Specific Plan Area, ensuring accessibility and connectivity throughout the neighborhood. The contract, posted in April 2017 with a response deadline in May 2017, is managed by the City of National City, California, with Jose Lopez serving as the primary contact for inquiries.
