The Mississippi WIC Program aims to support the health of low-income women, infants, and children up to age five who are at nutritional risk by providing essential services such as nutritious foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to healthcare and social services. The program is managed by the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) and operates through one State Agency, eleven federally qualified health centers, and one hospital system. To improve participant enrollment and retention, the program plans to conduct a statewide training for all WIC staff in 2026. This training will focus on equipping staff with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively recruit and retain WIC participants, addressing an identified need for consistent and collective training across all local agencies. The "WIC Statewide Training 2026" solicitation, issued by the Central WIC office in Mississippi, seeks to provide comprehensive instruction and foster networking opportunities among local agency staff, thereby enhancing communication and community collaboration throughout the state. The training is intended to bolster staff capacity and strengthen program outcomes by improving enrollment rates. The solicitation was posted on June 1, 2026, with a response deadline of June 15, 2026, and contact points include Crystal Williams, Program Specialist IV, and Kristen Conaway, Contracts/Subgrants Manager. The initiative reflects a strategic effort to unify and empower all WIC personnel statewide, ultimately benefiting the vulnerable populations the program serves.

It is the mission of the Mississippi WIC Program to safeguard the health of low-income women, infants, and children up to age five who are at nutritional risk by providing nutritious foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to healthcare and social services. MSDH oversees WIC services provided through one (1) State Agency, eleven (11) federally qualified health centers, and one (1) hospital system. The Mississippi WIC Programs plans to provide a WIC Statewide training for all WIC staff. The goal of the training is to equip staff with skills needed to enroll, recruit, and retain WIC participants. WIC staff are the backbone for the Program. Ensuring staff possess knowledge of strategies to recruit and retain participants may improve WIC enrollment and participation rates. Based on feedback from existing WIC staff, there is an urgent need to provide a collective training across all local agencies to ensure understanding. The WIC Statewide Training will allow the State Agency to provide knowledge and practical training. Local agency staff will also have the opportunity to network, which will open lines of communication throughout the state and foster a sense of community.
