Wildfire Hardening Big Trees Pump Station 1 and 4 Project

The Wildfire Hardening Big Trees Pump Stations 1 and 4 Project, managed by the Calaveras County Water District, involves the construction of two masonry enclosures, each approximately 144 square feet, to protect critical electrical panels and mechanical components from wildfire damage. The project includes the installation of new backup generators to replace existing units and the digging of shallow trenches for pipeline relocations and connections. To minimize environmental impact and eliminate the need for grading, the structures will be placed on existing concrete pads. The work will be performed at Pump Station 1 in Dorrington and Pump Station 4 in Camp Connell, California. Construction is scheduled to begin in early summer 2028 with an estimated duration of six months. The project is funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program and is administered by the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services. The project is exempt under CEQA Class 3, confirming no significant impact on biological or cultural resources.
