Williams Road Safe Street Corridor Project, CIP No. 9128

The Williams Road Safe Street Corridor Project, identified as CIP No. 9128, is a public works initiative by the City of Salinas in Monterey County, California. The project focuses on enhancing transit and pedestrian safety along a 1.6-mile stretch of Williams Road, extending from East Alisal Street/John Street to Freedom Parkway. Under the leadership of Acting City Engineer David Jacobs, the project is classified as a Categorical Exemption Class 1 under Section 15301(c) for transit and pedestrian crossing improvements. The scope of work involves significant infrastructure upgrades, including the construction of three new roundabouts at the intersections of East Alisal Street, East Market Street, and Freedom Parkway. Additional deliverables include the installation of a traffic signal, raised concrete medians, curb extensions, and improved roadway lighting. To enhance multi-modal transportation, the project will implement a combination of buffered bicycle lanes, marked bicycle lanes, and cycle tracks, alongside high-visibility crosswalks and new landscaping throughout the corridor.
