Wurr Road, Pescadero Creek Road, and Cloverdale Road Culvert Repairs Project

The County of San Mateo Department of Public Works is implementing the Wurr Road, Pescadero Creek Road, and Cloverdale Road Culvert Repairs Project to improve water quality and roadway drainage conveyance near Pescadero and Loma Mar in unincorporated San Mateo County. The project involves the repair and improvement of twelve culverts across thirteen road crossings, specifically including the installation of three new culverts, the replacement of two culverts, and the upsizing of five culverts. Additional site improvements include the installation of new headwalls, rock inlet protection, rock outfall energy dissipation, and a trash and debris rack at one location. A significant portion of the work at Cloverdale Road focuses on habitat enhancement and fish passage, involving the removal of accumulated sediment, obstructive vegetation, and the demolition of existing concrete weir structures on Little Butano Creek. The project is governed by the California Environmental Quality Act, with an Initial Study and Mitigated Negative Declaration used to assess impacts on biological resources, cultural assets, and hydrology. Construction is generically scheduled to begin on January 1, 2025, with strict seasonal restrictions requiring work in sensitive habitats or channels below ordinary high water to occur only during the dry season from June 15 through October 31. The project adheres to the Total Maximum Daily Load for Sediment and Habitat Enhancement Plan for the Pescadero-Butano Watershed and requires coordination with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife for necessary permits regarding endangered species and streambed alterations.
