AI Contract Overview

This contract involves the purchase of a single medical-grade X-ray producing tube, specifically an enclosed glass vacuum tube featuring a Beryllium window, but without a special housing, rotor, insert, or horn. Unlike standard X-ray tubes used in dental or hospital settings, this tube is intended solely to produce high-quality X-rays for non-medical purposes, namely to induce damage within the lattice structure of semiconductor computer chips. The tube’s classification as medical grade pertains to the quality of X-ray emission rather than its application, distinguishing it from industrial-grade tubes which are not suitable for this contract's requirements. The contract, identified by solicitation number FE23000099, was posted on December 1, 2011, by the Department of Defense’s office at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. Sue D. Quillen serves as the point of contact for this procurement. The contract emphasizes that the X-ray tube is for use in a specific research or technical context within the semiconductor field, rather than any diagnostic or therapeutic medical use. The purchase reflects specialized needs within defense or advanced technology research environments.

Full Description

UPDATE TO THE DESCRIPTION: 1. This is an enclosed X-ray Producing Tube that is "not" in a special housing. It is only a glass vacuum tube with a Beryllium window on the front of it. The X-ray Tube does not contain a horn, therefore, no horn angle. Also, there is no rotor or insert. This type of tube is "not" the type of X-ray device that is found in a Dentist Office or hospital X-ray Lab. 2. This is a "medical grade" X-ray producing tube. The term "medical grade" refers to the quality of X-rays that are being produced; not how this tube is being used. The other term used to describe a tube of lesser beam quality is "industrial grade." An "industrial grade" is NOT wanted in this type of item. The intent to use this X-ray tube is to cause damage inside of a semi-conductor (computer chip) lattice structure. It will NOT be used in any medical instrument or application. Updated, 1 December 2011, 4:20 p.m. Sue Quillen Buyer ASC/PKOAA Wright-Patterson AFB, OH
