Z--BRVB - Entry Courtyard Improvements

The National Park Service plans to issue an Invitation for Bid for improvements to the Entry Courtyard at the Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site in Topeka, Kansas. The project involves reconstructing the entry courtyard's concrete paving and stairs while maintaining the existing layout and historical joint patterns but updating slopes for ADA compliance. Work includes relocating signage and grading to improve stormwater drainage through a new storage chamber and overflow system connecting to the city's storm sewer network. Key construction tasks consist of removing and replacing existing concrete pavements and stairs, salvaging and relocating existing signs and door components, installing tree protection fencing and erosion control measures, as well as laying new fiber mesh reinforced concrete, ornamental stair handrails, detectable warning panels, turf grass sod, and associated grading and excavation. This firm-fixed price contract is estimated between $250,000 and $500,000 and will be awarded to a prime contractor by Summer 2026, with performance scheduled to start in Summer to Fall 2026.
