The John Day Lock and Dam Powerhouse Monolith Joint and Waterstop Repairs project, managed by the Department of Defense under solicitation W9127N-14-R-0004, aims to significantly reduce water infiltration caused by failed monolith waterstops. The scope of work involves implementing various sealing methods, including pavement joint sealants and surface mounted rubber gasket waterstops, across the roadway deck, dam galleries, and the dewatered fishway. A critical component of the project is the time sensitive in-water work required between January 20, 2014, and February 28, 2014. The contractor is responsible for furnishing and installing all necessary materials, such as stainless and galvanized steel plates, anchors, rubber seals, foam backer rods, and chemical or urethane grout log waterstops. Additionally, the project requires the drilling of a vertical socket through the entire dam, with periodic monitoring to ensure the socket correctly straddles the joint. The project uses a variety of different methods to seal monolith joints including: pavement joint sealant methods, and surface mounted rubber gasket waterstops. Repairs will be performed in the dewatered fishway, on the roadway deck, and in several dam galleries. Portions of the repairs are time sensitive and need to be performed in the in-water work period between January 20, 2014 and February 28, 2014. This project covers all work required to furnish and install all of the different waterstop details shown in the contract drawings. This includes, but is not limited to: stainless steel plate and anchors, galvanized steel plate and anchors, rubber seals, foam backer rod, chemical grout, and urethane grout log waterstops. The work also includes drilling a vertical socket through the entire dam and periodically monitoring the drilling to insure the socket straddles the joint.
