DRILLING SERVICES HORIZONTAL/INCLINED BORING FOR TUNNEL INVESTIGATION

The University of California Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is issuing a Sources Sought Announcement to pre-qualify firms for a potential tunnel investigation project. The scope of work involves drilling horizontal or inclined borings of at least 900 feet in length, collecting continuous geologic core samples, conducting in-hole physical, geophysical, and hydraulic tests, and grouting the borings upon completion. The work will primarily occur within the Orinda Formation, characterized by sedimentary deposits of claystone, siltstone, sandstone, and conglomerate, with expected challenges including faults, fractured rock, and variable hydraulic conditions. The anticipated period of performance is from July 2013 through April 2014. To be eligible, interested businesses under NAICS code 237990 must demonstrate significant past performance, including the completion of three similar projects exceeding 300,000 dollars each within the last three years. Prequalification requirements include a satisfactory safety record with a preferred Experience Modification Rate of 1.0 or less, the submission of financial statements for the past two reporting years, and proof of specific insurance coverages for general liability, automobile liability, and workers compensation. Qualified firms must submit their prequalification packages by June 14, 2013, to be considered for future solicitation and site visits.
