MLVR DPA Panel & 480V Feeder Replacement

The contract involves the replacement and upgrade of an aging power distribution system within the B002 Klystron Gallery and several associated sectors at SLAC. The existing system includes original 480V, 400A distribution panels without main breakers that were installed over 60 years ago. Five feeders supplying these panels failed insulation resistance tests and were temporarily replaced with overhead cables, which are considered less safe and reliable than permanent feeder conduits. The primary scope includes replacing specific distribution panels in Sectors 23 and 27 with new government-furnished 480V, NEMA 1, 400A main panelboards rated at 65kAIC, along with the installation of new overhead feeder conduits from K-12 and K-14 substations. These conduits will also incorporate expansion and deflection fittings at seismic joints to accommodate structural movements. Additionally, the contract outlines options for further replacement of distribution panels and temporary cords in Sectors 11, 13, and 15. The work is set to take place in Menlo Park, California, and is aligned with NAICS code 238210, which covers electrical contractors and other wiring installation contractors. The points of contact for this project include Kris Faulkner, Team Lead for Construction & Projects, reachable via the provided email. This upgrade aims to enhance operational safety and system reliability by eliminating aging equipment and temporary feeder solutions.
