Driving Highway Simulator Laboratory

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) plans to extend the existing contract with AAI Corporation, originally identified as Contract No. DTFH61-07-C-00042, to continue supporting the Highway Driving Simulator laboratory without opening the procurement to competitive bidding. The contract period will be extended through January 31, 2013, and will include additional work along with the purchase of equipment, hardware, and software necessary for the simulator’s ongoing operations. This action is justified under the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 6.302-1, citing that AAI Corporation is the only responsible source capable of meeting the agency’s specific requirements. While the notice invites all interested and capable sources to express their interest, it does not constitute a solicitation for competitive proposals. Any information received will primarily serve to assess the need for a competitive procurement in the future. The contracting office responsible for this acquisition is the 693JJ3 Acquisition and Grants Management office within the Department of Transportation, based in Washington, DC, and points of contact for further information include Lise S. Lyles and Robin L. Hobbs. The procurement activities fall under NAICS code 541712, which pertains to research and development in the physical, engineering, and life sciences.
