What does Broome Community College do?

Broome Community College is dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the physical infrastructure that supports its educational mission, with a primary focus on facility modernization and maintenance for academic and student services. The agency’s procurement activity centers on commercial and institutional building construction, as well as specialized renovation projects that ensure safe, functional, and accessible learning environments. Strategic priorities include upgrading aging facilities such as nursing schools and athletic spaces to meet evolving pedagogical and safety standards, reflecting a commitment to student-centered infrastructure investment. Key initiatives involve capital improvements that align with long-term campus development plans, emphasizing durability, accessibility, and energy efficiency in all construction and renovation efforts. The agency most frequently procures construction and renovation services under NAICS 236220, targeting contractors capable of delivering complex interior and structural upgrades to educational buildings. A secondary but notable procurement category is NAICS 922110, which, while atypical for an educational institution, suggests potential alignment with court-related administrative functions or shared municipal facilities. Contracts are typically issued as competitive solicitations without set-asides, indicating an open procurement approach focused on technical capability and project execution rather than socioeconomic preferences. Industry preferences are narrowly focused on construction and facility maintenance vendors with proven experience in institutional environments. The agency does not prioritize set-asides or diversity programs based on current procurement patterns, and vendor relationships appear to be driven by project scope, compliance with building codes, and demonstrated capacity for phased, low-disruption work in active campus settings. Broome Community College operates as part of the State University of New York system under the New York Department of Education, serving as a public two-year institution with campus facilities located in Broome County, New York. It utilizes standard state procurement vehicles for construction services, issuing competitive solicitations for capital improvement projects under its institutional authority. Its procurement structure reflects a focus on lifecycle asset management and infrastructure resilience.
