What does Recreation and Parks - Youth Sports do?

The Recreation and Parks - Youth Sports agency supports community well-being by facilitating accessible youth athletic programs and maintaining public recreational infrastructure. Its mission centers on creating safe, inclusive environments for young athletes through facility maintenance, equipment provisioning, and event support services. Strategic priorities include sustaining playgrounds, sports fields, and outdoor recreation spaces while ensuring operational readiness through custodial, rental, and light construction services. Key programs focus on youth engagement, equitable access to sports facilities, and partnerships with local organizations to expand programming beyond traditional venues. The agency most frequently procures janitorial services to maintain cleanliness across athletic facilities, general rental centers for temporary equipment needs such as tents, scoreboards, and portable restrooms, and miscellaneous manufacturing for custom sports gear or signage. Contracts are typically awarded through open solicitations with no set-asides, indicating a preference for competitive, performance-based vendor selection. Procurements often target turnkey solutions—such as equipment repair, facility cleanup, and temporary staffing—to ensure uninterrupted program delivery. Primary NAICS categories reflect a reliance on janitorial services, equipment rentals, and light construction for site preparation and infrastructure upkeep. The agency also engages specialized vendors for institutional furniture, signage, and environmental consulting to support facility modernization. While no formal set-aside preferences are evident, procurement patterns suggest consistent vendor relationships with local service providers capable of rapid response and multi-service bundling. The agency favors vendors with proven experience in public recreation environments and compliance with safety and accessibility standards. Operated by the City of Columbus under the Recreation and Parks department, this unit serves municipal youth sports initiatives across Columbus neighborhoods. It operates without dedicated physical facilities, relying instead on city-owned parks and community centers. Procurements are conducted through standard municipal solicitation vehicles, primarily competitive bidding and request-for-proposal processes, with an emphasis on reliability, scalability, and alignment with public health and safety codes.
