The effort is driven by the need to reduce human error, minimize administrative burden, and ensure absolute accountability in high-stakes special operations environments. The collaboration unfolds in stages: first, a mandatory submission deadline of 16 August 2026 for attendance at the in-person Collaboration Event on 17 September 2026 at SOFWERX in Florida, where stakeholders will engage directly with warfighters to refine requirements. Those unable to attend may still submit solutions by 20 October 2026 for the Assessment Event, which includes a virtual Q&A on 3 November and a downselect by 1 December. Finalists will present live demonstrations during the Assessment Event from 15 to 17 December 2026, with top-performing solutions potentially entering into non-traditional agreements under 10 U.S.C. Sections 4021, 4022, or other alternative contracting authorities such as OTAs, CRADAs, or prize competitions. Selected participants must comply with NIST SP 800-171 for handling Controlled Unclassified Information. Only U.S. persons and U.S. industry entities are eligible to participate, and success in this event may lead directly to follow-on production agreements without additional competition.
