The U.S. Army Medical Command’s Regional Health Contracting Office-Pacific plans to issue a sole source, firm-fixed price contract valued at $150,000 to Globus Medical, Inc. for specialized spinal, cervical, and lumbar implants along with other orthopedic supplies needed for urgent surgical procedures at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington. This procurement arises under solicitation W81K0220Q0053 and is conducted pursuant to federal acquisition regulations allowing simplified acquisition procedures. The nature of spinal implant products and related surgical tools is highly specialized, with selections primarily driven by surgeon preference and specific training rather than price, due to the proprietary and unique technical characteristics of the products and their impact on patient outcomes. Globus Medical’s products are uniquely suited to meet the technical and therapeutic requirements for the medical center's urgent needs, which justifies the sole source award. The notice explicitly clarifies that it is not a solicitation, and no formal requests for proposals will be issued. However, other vendors who believe they can supply comparable products may submit documentation of their offerings for consideration in future procurements. Communications regarding this acquisition are directed to the designated contracting officer, Walter J. Bischoff, via email only, as telephone or fax inquiries will not be accepted. This approach emphasizes the critical urgency and specialized nature of the products required under the North American Industry Classification System code 339113, for surgical implants and related medical supplies.
