AI Contract Overview
The Government intends to issue a Request for Proposal to identify qualified sources for the production and qualification of the 20mm Mechanical Housing, NSN 1005-01-190-9802, Part Number 209F953, a critical component used in the F-16 aircraft’s M61A1 gun system. This transfer unit mechanical housing facilitates the transfer of live rounds and expended cases between the gun feeder assembly and conveyor system, ensuring proper ammunition handling during gun operation. The acquisition will be competitive, with the requirement that sources possess engineering approval from the design control activity to comply with stringent quality standards. Because the design data and manufacturing knowledge are retained by approved sources, any alternate suppliers must undergo a rigorous qualification process approved by the Government engineering authority. The Defense Logistics Agency Weapons Support plans to award up to three multiple-award indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contracts, including set-asides for small businesses, each consisting of five 12-month ordering periods. These contracts aim to secure current and future supply chain stability for this component. Proposals will be solicited from pre-qualified and approved sources, with the Government evaluating offers for best value using tradeoff procedures under FAR Part 15. Interested parties are invited to express their interest and capability to meet these requirements by the June 26, 2026 deadline.
