The 27-28 Conservation/Preservation Discretionary Grants, administered by the New York State Department of Education under Education Law §273(6)(c), provide financial support to preserve significant research materials within New York State. The program is open to agencies and libraries chartered by the Regents, not-for-profit libraries, archives, historical societies, and consortia of such agencies. Funding is sourced from New York State Aid to Libraries, with an estimated total of 500,000 dollars available. Individual grant awards range from a minimum of 2,500 dollars to a maximum of 45,000 dollars, and no financial match is required, though institutional contributions of staff time may be necessary. Eligible projects include improving collection storage environments, reformatting or treating collections, and other activities that promote the care, accessibility, and standardization of preservation work. The project period runs from July 1, 2027, through June 30, 2028. Applications must be submitted through the Online Grant Application System by 5:00 PM on January 15, 2027. A critical requirement for non-profit applicants is prequalification in the Statewide Financial System (SFS) by the application deadline; failure to do so will result in disqualification. While not mandatory, the department strongly encourages the submission of a Notice of Intent by December 18, 2026, including the organization's legal name and NYS Vendor ID. Questions regarding the solicitation are accepted via email until November 20, 2026. There are no specific goals for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Businesses or Disadvantaged Business Enterprises for this procurement.
