The United States Coast Guard Civil Engineering Unit in Juneau, Alaska is seeking information from commercial sources capable of performing a specialized overhaul service on a Coast Guard-owned Caterpillar model 3512 engine generator located at the U.S. Coast Guard LORAN Station on Attu Island, Alaska. The required service includes a factory-recommended 11,000-hour Top End service, inspection, overhaul, and rebuild according to specific Caterpillar publications and standards. All parts used must be genuine Caterpillar parts and work must be completed by a Caterpillar-certified mechanic who can provide a qualifications card. Upon completion, the engine generator must undergo a four-hour full-load test run to confirm operating specifications. Due to the remote island location, which can only be accessed by barge or aircraft, logistical considerations are significant. The work must be completed by February 1, 2005. The Coast Guard is conducting this market survey to identify firms capable of meeting the requirements and to collect pertinent information including company details, product literature, any operational limitations regarding geography, and business size classifications such as Small Business, HUBZone, or 8(a). Interested parties are requested to submit their information by November 18, 2004, to the Contracting Officer at the USCG CEU Juneau, with submissions also accepted via fax. This inquiry is strictly an informational Request for Information (RFI) and not a solicitation or Request for Proposal, with no contract being awarded based on this announcement.
