NASA/LaRC has a requirement for an upgrade to the Build Envelope on an existingFortus Rapid Prototype Machine Model # 360mc: 1 eachNASA/LaRC intends to purchase the upgrade from Stratasys, Inc as the only known venderthat offers the Rapid Prototype Machine (RPM) and Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM)technology currently used in support of various larger scale models and projects. Theupgrade must be compatible with the existing FDM machine that was purchased fromStratasys, Inc. Therefore, it would not be feasible to negotiate with a different vendordue to potential machine incompatibility and warranty violation. It would takesubstantial duplication of time and money for another company to offer a similar productthat would meet this requirement.The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform theeffort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local timeon 06/18/2009. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purposeof determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis.
