The Government plans to award a sole source purchase order to AWI Acquisition Corp., located in Sacramento, California, for the training and activation of the recently relocated Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) at Ft. Wainwright. AWI is uniquely qualified to perform this work as the original manufacturer and assembler of the ASOS, and is currently the only company capable of conducting the system's startup and providing the necessary personnel training. Due to the proprietary nature of the equipment and services involved, this procurement will proceed without full and open competition, in accordance with the applicable federal acquisition regulations. The 55th Contracting Squadron intends to issue a firm fixed price purchase order under these sole source conditions to ensure timely completion that meets mission requirements. The decision against competitive bidding is justified by AWI's exclusive capability to fulfill the agency's needs for the ASOS turn-up and training. The contract is associated with NAICS code 334519 and falls under the Department of Defense office at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska.
