The Department of Veterans Affairs, Louis Stokes VA Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, intends to award a sole source contract to Medtronic, Inc. for catheter ablation services, specifically cryoablation catheters used in cardiology for treating patients through a bi-directional catheter measuring 140 cm and 28 mm in diameter. The contract will involve the procurement of six units of this specialized medical device. This decision to pursue a sole source procurement is justified under federal regulations, indicating that only Medtronic can meet the specific requirements of the VA for this service. However, the VA reserves full discretion to proceed without competition based on responses received. No formal solicitation has been released at this time, and all inquiries are directed to a designated VA official by email. The contract falls under the NAICS code 334510, which relates to medical device manufacturing, underscoring the specialized nature of the required catheter ablation devices.
