AI Contract Overview

The VA Healthcare System plans to award a sole source contract to Cepheid for the provision of MRSA testing kits, citing Cepheid as the exclusive authorized distributor for these patented reagent kits. The contract, expected to last for one year, will include the supply of 60 kits at a unit price of $5,348.40, along with servicing the testing instrumentation should it require repair. The instrumentation must also be capable of performing additional low-volume tests beyond MRSA, such as Carba R, Trichomonas, Flu/RSV, Norovirus, C. diff, and MTB/Rif. Due to the exclusive nature of the product and the complexities involved in changing instrumentation — which would necessitate lengthy validation and employee retraining — a sole source procurement is justified. No government-furnished property will be provided except electrical power for the equipment’s operation. The kits and service will be delivered to the Microbiology Department of the CMCVA Medical Center in Philadelphia. Interested parties may express their interest with supporting documentation by a specified deadline; however, this is not a solicitation for competitive proposals. The decision to pursue a competitive procurement instead rests solely with the Contracting Officer. The procurement falls under NAICS code 325413, and all official communications are to be directed to the Department of Veterans Affairs Network Contracting Office 4 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
