AI Contract Overview

The Department of Veterans Affairs, specifically the Dayton VA Medical Center, intends to procure stents solely from Abbott Vascular under a sole source justification citing FAR 6.302-1(a)(2), which allows contracting with only one responsible source when no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. This exclusive procurement approach is due to the specialized nature of the stents needed for cardiac procedures, which the government believes only Abbott Vascular can provide. The intention is to negotiate directly with Abbott Vascular for stocking these stents during cardiac interventions to ensure availability and reliability. Potential interested parties were invited to express their interest and capability to meet the requirement by May 23, 2016, with the understanding that any responses would be considered solely to determine whether the requirement should be opened up to competition. However, the government retains full discretion on whether or not to pursue competitive solicitation based on those responses. At the time of the notice, no solicitation was available, and all inquiries were to be directed via email to the designated VA contact. The contract is associated with NAICS code 334510, covering surgical appliance and supplies manufacturing.
