The Detroit VA Medical Center intends to enter into a sole source procurement with Sound Surgical Technologies for the acquisition of a Vaser Sound Fluid Management System. This specialized medical system is designed for precision fluid management and selective tissue emulsification to minimize tissue matrix trauma. The procurement includes the main system, a canister rack with vacuum gauge, probes, cannulae, hand pieces, assembly tools, a start-up disposables pack, and one year of complete service for major system components. This action is being pursued under the authority of FAR 6.302-3(a)(2)(ii), meaning the government intends to negotiate with a single source rather than soliciting competitive proposals. Interested firms capable of meeting these requirements were required to submit proof to the Contracting Officer, Diane Foster, by September 12, 2008. The final determination regarding whether to compete the contract remains at the sole discretion of the government.
