This announcement is a Sources Sought notice issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs, specifically seeking market research information to identify qualified businesses capable of supplying the Bard/Davol Ventralight ST mesh with Echo positioning system and the Sorbafix tacking device for use in laparoscopic ventral/incisional hernia repair. It is not a solicitation or request for proposals, and there is no obligation for the Government to award a contract based on responses. The Wichita VAMC requires these products because the Ventralight ST mesh includes a resorbable layer to prevent adhesions and a positioning system to optimize placement and reduce operative time. The Sorbafix tacking device is preferred as it uses resorbable tacks to secure the mesh internally, reducing infection risk and complications linked to the currently used permanent metal spring tacks. Interested parties must submit written responses by May 15, 2014, including company details such as name, address, contact information, DUNS number, Cage Code, Tax ID, type of business classification, and a capability statement demonstrating qualifications to supply the specified medical products. The purpose of this data gathering is to aid the agency in making appropriate acquisition decisions. Contact for this Sources Sought is Eric Murray, Contract Specialist at the Department of Veterans Affairs Network Contracting Office 15 in Leavenworth, Kansas.

This is a SOURCES SOUGHT announcement only. It is neither a solicitation announcement nor a request for proposal or quote and does no obligate the Government to award a contract. Requests for a solicitation will not receive a response. Responses to this Sources Sought must be in writing. The purpose of this Sources Sought Announcement is for market research to make appropriate acquisition decisions and to gain knowledge of potential qualified businesses. Responses to this notice shall include: (a) Company Name (b) address (c) point of contact (d) phone, fax, and email (e) DUNS number (f) Cage Code (g) Tax ID Number (h) Type of business, e.g. Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business, Veteran Owned Small Business, 8(a) HUB Zone, Women Owned Small Business, SDB or Small Business HUB-Zone and (i) must provide a capability statement that addresses the organizations qualifications and ability to perform as a contractor for the work described below: Statement of Work regarding Bard/Davol Ventralight ST mesh with Echo positioning system and Sorbafix tacking device The Wichita VAMC is in need of a lightweight mesh that can be safely placed within the abdomen for repair of ventral/incisional hernias repaired laparoscopically. The Ventralight ST with the Echo Positioning system has a resorbable layer that helps prevent adhesions to the mesh, and the positioning system facilitates optimal placement (and decreases operative time). The Sorbafix tacking device, it is needed to fix the mesh to the inside of the abdominal wall. This limits the need for multiple incisions through the abdominal wall (which decreases the risk of introducing infection). The tacks themselves are resorbable, thus limiting the risk of adhesions to the tacks. The current tacking device we have uses permanent metal springs to fix the mesh. These are not desirable, as there is an increased risk of adhesions and the possibility that if they fall out of the position they could theoretically perforate the bowel or lead to other problems.
