The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) plans to award a sole source contract to Xenogen Corporation for the IVIS Imaging System 200 Series. This system provides unique in vivo biophotonic imaging technology that enables real-time visualization and analysis of gene expression, cellular pathways, and drug/target interactions within live animals, a capability not offered by any other vendor. The IVIS system is also noted for its cost-effectiveness and suitability for placement in an animal procedure room without causing floor vibrations, supporting the justification for limiting competition. The procurement is authorized under the statutory provision for other-than-full-and-open competition due to Xenogen being the only responsible source fulfilling the agency’s requirements. The contract is not set aside for small businesses, and while this notice invites interested parties to demonstrate their capability to fulfill the requirement, it is not a solicitation for competitive proposals. Contractual questions can be directed to Gary Morgan via email or fax, with additional contact available through both Gary Morgan and Jeff A Miller as contract specialists. The procurement remains discretionary by the government, and responses will only be used for informational purposes to confirm the suitability of sole source procurement.
