The Department of Veterans Affairs, specifically the VA Boston Healthcare System, has issued a justification for other than full and open competition to procure two FirstCall Aperio Main Units and necessary adapters from UNISYN Medical Technologies. The total anticipated cost for this acquisition is 73,965.00 dollars. This procurement is conducted under the statutory authority that only one responsible source can satisfy the agency's requirements, as the FirstCall Aperio is identified as the only device capable of checking the function of individual crystals across all brands of ultrasound probes and interfacing with all endoscopes. To promote competition, the contracting office posted a combined synopsis and solicitation on FedBizOpps, but UNISYN was the sole respondent and provided documentation confirming its status as the sole source supplier. The acquisition of this equipment is intended to reduce the need for external repairs and ensure the accuracy of repairs performed on probes. The request was certified by Clinical Engineer Lee Winslow and approved by Contracting Officer Heather L. Simpson on September 10, 2010.
